Papon is the lead singer and the founder of the folk-fusion band ‘Papon and The East India Company’. Papon is the best-known singer for his songs, including Eketi Baatere, Uttorbhin, Ulka, Bauli, Mur Priya, Bohu Aasha, Mathu Tumi, Hahi Eti, Bonoriya, Jete Hawbe, Bubbly Bubbly, Ki Kore Bolbo Tomay, Re Manaa, Hello Hello, Jonak, Ek Tui Teen, etc. Papon has sung and worked on many songs in different languages.
Papon was born on 24 November 1975 in Nagaon, Assam, India. He is the son of Khagen Mahanta, who died, and Archana Mahanta. He has one sister named Kingkini Mahanta. He went to Kendriya Vidyalaya, Nagaon, Assam. Papon is married to Shweta Mishra Mahanta and they have two children together.
